Step 1

With right sides together, match your strap facing piece with lining piece, lining up notches and stitch together. Repeat for other strap/lining piece. Press seam allowance towards lining.

Step 2

With right sides together, place your fused ‘zip facing’ piece onto one of your ‘strap facing’ pieces as marked on your pattern piece. Stitch along stitch line marking. Cut through the middle of stitching stopping about 1.3cm/0.5” from each end. Clip out to corners of stitch line being careful not to cut through your stitching. Turn facing through to the wrong side and press flat along stitch line.

Step 3

Neaten the edges all the way around pocket bags. With right side of zipper facing wrong side of pocket bag, stitch together along top edge. Fold zipper up and press.

Step 4

Place your zipper (with attached pocket bag) behind zipper opening in bag facing, and edge stitch in place at 5mm/0.2” all the way around zipper.

Step 5

Fold bottom edge of pocket bag up to meet top edge of facing and stitch together. Stitch the sides of pocket bag closed.

Step 6

With right sides facing, stitch the bag lining to one side of the outer shell at shoulder. Press seam open. Repeat for other side.

Step 7

Place one piece over the other with wrong sides together and baste together on inside edge.

Step 8

Place inside edge binding pieces together with right sides facing and stitch together at one of the short ends. Press seams open.

Step 9

Pin one of the long edges of binding strip right around inside edge of bag strap with right sides facing and stitch in place.

Step 10

Press the other long edge of binding in, then fold over to the other side of bag overlapping the stitch line slightly and top stitch in place. Press.

Step 11

Pull the outside layer of bag over lining side, matching up top edge of binding with corresponding notch and pin together. Your lining pieces should be sitting on the inside. Baste right around outside edge to hold together. Trim seam allowance in half.

Step 12

Place outer edge binding pieces together with right sides facing and stitch together at one of the short ends. Press seams open. Press one edge back 1cm/0.39”.

Step 13

Follow steps 9 - 10 to apply your outside edge binding starting with your pressed back edge, overlapping the open edge when you get to the other end. Turn over and top stitch.
